According to Sky Sports Germany, Matthäus believes that announcing the squad on Thursday would disrupt the focus of the European competition players.

Lothar Matthäus said he disliked announcing the squad on Thursdays, even during Klopp's tenure. He explained, "Doesn't the German Football Association always want to turn every stone upside down? In my opinion, this should be one of those stones." The German national team's all-time appearance record holder believes that announcing the squad on Friday would be more appropriate, giving the players enough time to process it.

Matthäus also believes that another benefit of announcing the squad on Friday is that if a player is injured in European competitions, there will be no need to make a replacement, which is advantageous for the national team coach.

“I really hope that Jürgen Klopp will announce the squad on Friday mornings or at noon in the future,” Matthäus said.
