According to Metro, Chelsea legend Petit has urged the club to replace the error-prone goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez before the transfer window closes. He also stated that Roberto Martinez would be a good option if Chelsea need to replace their goalkeeper.

Early Tuesday morning Beijing time, Xabi Alonso led Chelsea to a winning start, with Chelsea defeating city rivals Fulham 3-2. Chelsea showcased their attacking prowess this season, with João Pedro, Morgan Rodgers, and Palmer all scoring.

However, on the other side of the pitch, Chelsea's numerous defensive errors nearly cost Alonso and his new team dearly. It was a particularly difficult night for Sanchez, who is already facing calls to oust his current goalkeeper.

"The goalkeeper position is difficult because you don't have anyone behind you to cover for you, but we know Sanchez," former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf told ESPNFC. "We've known him for a long time and we know he'll make mistakes."

"But when you play for a club like Chelsea and see how the team's attack is, they are almost impeccable. The front three scored three goals away from home, which is excellent, but you can't waste all of that with stupid mistakes."

"That's the problem: Xabi Alonso needs to find another replacement as soon as possible. This has been a problem for some time, and we don't want to see it happen again."

"No offense to Sanchez, we've tried, but it didn't work. He couldn't step up and save the club in crucial moments, so we have to find another goalkeeper."

Therefore, former Chelsea midfielder Petit believes that if the price is low enough, Amy Martinez, who has lost his starting position at Aston Villa, would be a suitable candidate.

The experienced Argentine goalkeeper was close to joining Juventus after the World Cup, but the deal ultimately fell through.

Aston Villa signed Aya Suzuki earlier this month and started Bizzo in goal in Sunday's 0-4 defeat to Brighton.

Petit stated that even if Martinez can only serve as a short-term solution to a long-term problem, he could still be a shrewd signing.

"Just £10 million?" he said in an interview with Oddschecker, when discussing Martinez's potential transfer fee.

"Well, some people might ask me about Martinez. I always think about the national team and his actions during the World Cup."

“We’ve known Martinez for a long time. But I have to be honest, I like this goalkeeper. Even though he tries to influence the opponents’ mentality and has some bad behavior on the field, he has the personality and leadership that is needed.”

"At Chelsea, it could be very interesting to see his anger and his ambition. He's not afraid to communicate with the players and will speak his mind directly."

“It would be great to see that kind of leadership alongside Fernandes in midfield. I don’t know if he will leave, but there’s no doubt that Martinez would be an option if Chelsea need to change goalkeepers.”
