According to The Guardian, UEFA is close to withdrawing its threat to boycott FIFA events after receiving assurances that Gianni Infantino will no longer push for the sale of World Cup shares to private investors.
UEFA's Executive Committee will meet in Monaco on Thursday to discuss the matter. The highest governing body in European football believes the situation has changed since Infantino withdrew his initial proposal. UEFA has set two conditions: a guarantee that the plan will not proceed and will not be raised again in the future.
This decision came after FIFA withdrew the controversial proposal at the end of July. The proposal had drawn strong opposition from UEFA's 55 member associations, who reached a consensus to boycott it after details were revealed last month.
UEFA is demanding not only a formal withdrawal of the proposal, but also a commitment not to restart similar programs in the future: "This is not a failure of UEFA, but a matter of not ruining a young player's once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Actions and reforms will continue."
